What is green cleaning? And why practice it?
As we know that most conventional cleaning products are petroleum based and contain substances like phosphates, chlorine, artificial fragrances and colours. All these things really bad environmental implications. These products are also top contributors of high indoor pollution and the volatile organic compounds in them are the cause of damage to kidney, lungs and central nervous system. These once released linger in the air for too long and we inhale them. GREEN CLEANING is a practice that uses only products that are friendly to the environment in the process of cleaning the house. Most people use products like vinegar, lemon and baking soda which are excellent bleaching agents and work as effectively as the conventional cleaners. Basically, a cleaning technique that is not harmful to the environment is green cleaning.
With the increase in environmental pollution day by day, it is very important for everyone to practice green cleaning. It not only saves you from various harmful diseases, allergies and skin infection but also is healthier for our surroundings. An additional advantage is that if you use homemade cleaners, you will save a lot of money on the cleaners as well as the hospital bills. It will also save you the hassle of buying a different cleaner for everything.
How to practice Green Cleaning?
First of all, anything that you think is causing any harm to the environment and has things like flame able and toxic written on them should be given for recycling. Many commercial cleaning companies sell green cleaning products claiming that they are environment friendly. These products are made of natural substances that are grown in natural environments. Many if these products are biodegradable, non toxic and not made of petroleum. If you are not interested in buying these designer products, you could always use home based products like baking soda, lemon, vinegar etc. Instead of the toxic room fresheners you can use things like potpourri or cinnamon to keep your house smelling fresh and inviting. Also it is very important to note that the conventional cleaning products should not be washed down the drain. This would either toxify the rivers or the landfills. These should be given out to recycle only.
